If you're crazy about feijoas, the Whanganui Environment Base is the place to be this Sunday.

Sustainable Whanganui is holding its third annual Feijoabulous Festival - a festival dedicated to New Zealand's favourite autumn fruit.

Organisers Margi Keys and Lyn Pearson said the two previous festivals had been very popular.

"People were asking us when the next one would be," Mrs Pearson said.

From 11am to 1pm on Sunday, the feijoa will be celebrated through shared food, recipe swaps, a feijoa quiz and feijoa smoothies.

Prizes will be given for the biggest, smallest and ugliest feijoas, and people are encouraged to dress up as feijoas.

Ms Keys said feijoas were under threat from two diseases - the guava moth and the myrtle rust.

"Both of them are only present up north so far, and haven't reached Whanganui yet. Hopefully it will stay that way."

Feijoabulous Festival will be held 11am-1pm, May 21, at the Whanganui Environment Base (behind the Resource Recovery Centre), Maria Place extension. All welcome - please bring a feijoa dish plus the recipe, and any feijoas you can spare.
