Western Bay of Plenty kiwifruit management company DMS Progrowers has announced a record profit.
The company's financial result showed a record net profit, before tax and distributions of $9.7 million, up from $6.95 million the previous financial year.
Director Craig Greenlees said managing growth carefully was essential, with the kiwifruitindustry booming post-Psa recovery.
Mr Greenlees pointed to the recently publicised fortune turnaround of Fletcher Building resulting in their shares dropping to a 16-month low, as an important warning of the dangers facing growth industries, including kiwifruit.
"A fast growing industry is an opportunity but also has risks, and success is not guaranteed," he said.
DMS is prepared for another strong season in 2018, after investing $12.6 million in infrastructure in 2016 and a further $11.1m total investment across their Te Puna and Te Puke sites in 2017.
The increased capacity includes four new three-pallet high, robot-racked coolstores - which are the biggest in the Bay of Plenty and will allow growers to maximise storage time for their fruit.
