I was delighted when I received an invitation from Sir David Fagan early last year to attend the recently held International Shearing Championships in Invercargill.

I have watched with interest the development of this event and was very proud to be part of the outstanding championships. Even though not held in Taranaki-King Country our electorate was well represented and with Sir David Fagan and others at the helm, I could not have been prouder.

Our Prime Minister, Bill English did not disappoint when he got on stage and shore a sheep beating Sir David. We certainly have a hand's on, roll your sleeves up Prime Minister which I definitely appreciate.

I recently spent an afternoon at the Transport and Heavy Equipment Expo held at Mystery Creek. It was really interesting to see the latest technology being rolled out and how it will benefit those people involved in this industry. I enjoyed being able to try some of the virtual exhibits and also got to sit in some of the new model trucks. It was a pleasure to have my neighbouring MP, Hon Louise Upston visit the exhibition.

It was a real pleasure to be part of the community and be asked to speak at the Te Awamutu Town Blessing.

The gathering was made up of a wide range of diverse groups of people and there was a wonderful sense of thankfulness and appreciation that we live in such a wonderful town. Guest speaker David Graham gave an inspiring speech about what the boxing academies' have done in their individual communities. I would like to thank Bob Sinclair and his volunteers for organising this memorable celebration for Te Awamutu.

I recently attended the Waipa Citizenship Ceremony and it was lovely to be part of this very special occasion welcoming the new citizens. I thoroughly enjoy attending the Citizenship Ceremonies when I can. It is very special to observe the pride of those individuals taking the Oath and the support provided from family and friends.

The Waipa Council staff are always incredibly welcoming and it was great to hear the new Waipa Waiata.

It has also been a very busy time with Constituent Clinics, meeting people in both Te Awamutu and Inglewood offices. I am always grateful to receive feedback from my constituents on a range of issues and where I can offer myself as an advocate.

I was extremely saddened to recently hear of the passing of Don Ferguson, he was always an exceptional man to talk to about Jersey cows with a wealth of invaluable knowledge and experience.

He will be sorely missed and I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Don's family.
