Prices for medium to longer term cattle took a dip today as the hot, dry weather over the past couple of weeks put the brakes on the grass market, Darryl Harwood of NZ Farmers Livestock says.

Two-year Friesian — Hereford steers 460 kg — 720 kg realised $2.50/kg — $2.59/kg, Angus steers 527 kg made $1310 and Belted Galloway steers 520 kg made $1285. Friesian steers 435 kg made $1000.

2 year Friesian — Hereford bulls 507 kg made $1240 and Angus bulls 527 kg made $1230. Friesian bulls 470 kg — 514 kg made $2.15/kg — $2.49/kg and Speckle Park cross bulls 534 kg made $1360. Jersey bulls 550 kg — 610 kg made $1.96/kg — $2.06/kg and cross bred bulls 540 kg made $1100.

2 year Friesian — Hereford heifers 407 kg — 505 kg made $2.65/kg — $2.77/kg, Friesian heifers 350 kg — 585 kg made $2.02/kg — $2.44/kg and cross bred heifers 340 kg — 465 kg made $1.76/kg — $1.97/kg.

Yearling Friesian- Hereford cross steers 250 kg — 338 kg made $2.50/kg — $2.56/kg, Angus cross steers 334 kg made $775 and Friesian steers 330 kg made $715.

Yearling cross bred bulls 245 kg — 345 kg made $1.33/kg — $1.67/kg.

Yearling Angus cross heifers 290 kg made $550 and White Galloway heifers 315 kg made $600.

Weaner Friesian- Hereford steers 160 kg — 167 kg made $490 — $640 and Angus cross steers 210 kg made $550.

Weaner Friesian bulls 95 kg — 117 kg made $300 — $365 and 143 kg — 217 kg made $420 — $630. Friesian- Hereford bulls 105 kg — 190 kg made $460 — $535 and Angus cross bulls 105 kg — 153 kg made $400 — $455. Charolais cross bulls 140 kg made $510 and cross bred bulls 102 kg — 195 kg made $275 — $550.

Weaner Friesian- Hereford heifers 98 kg — 232 kg made $390 — $600 and Angus cross heifers 100 kg — 145 kg made $330 — $460.

Friesian boner cows 475 kg — 670 kg made $1.54/kg — $1.62/kg, cross bred boners 473 kg — 525 kg made $1.50/kg and Jersey boners 350 kg — 433 kg made $1.28/kg — $1.31/kg.
