Carrfields stock report

As the winter weather starts to bite it certainly was a hot sale in Levin with a large yarding of quality cattle.

Autumn born calves — Frsn bulls $240 — $290, W/F bulls $230. Sheep — ewes RWR $135 — $140, lambs $101. Cattle — R2yr strs $1160 — $1220, R2yr hfrs $1040, traditional wnr strs $625 — $840, traditional wnr hfrs $560 — $640, Frsn/Hfd wnr strs $640 — $650, Frsn/Hfd wnr hfrs $470 — $540.

NZ Farmers Livestock Ltd

It was more like Noah's Ark at Rongotea Saleyards this week, with animals coming through in ones and twos rather than decent lines, NZFL livestock agent John Watson reported.

2 year white-face heifers 404 kg traded to $2.45/kg; mixed bred 2 year steers 420 – 435 kg made $1000 - $1075; 18 month white-face steers 345 kg – 383 kg traded between $2.32 - $2.58 / kg.

Autumn-born Friesian and white-face yearling bulls 235 kg – 272 kg made up to $625.
18 month white-face heifers 390 kg fetched $2-38 / kg;
Yearling Friesian bulls 365 kg – 450 kg made $930 - $1010; Friesian heifers 295 kg fetched up to $1.71 / kg; beef bred heifers 295 kg – 322 kg made up to $630. Friesian cross steers 318 kg made $660.

Weaner Friesian bulls 131 kg - 187 kg made $360 - $500; white-face bulls 101 kg – 310 kg made $345 - $560; Angus cross bulls 122 kg made $2.98 / kg.

Weaner Angus cross heifers 200 kg made $580; white-face heifers 137 kg – 243 kg made $495 - $590; Charolais heifers 102 kg made $400; Friesian/Hereford heifers 138 kg made $3.63 / kg. Angus weaner steers 232 kg fetched $3.11; white-face weaner steers 135 kg - 255 kg made $600 - $680 / kg.

Friesian boner cows 355 kg - 674 kg traded between $1.40 - $1.72 / kg, Friesian cross boners 570 kg made $860; Jersey boner cows 393 kg fetched $1.34 / kg.

There were fairly good quality Friesian and white-face bulls on offer In the autumn-born calf pens where top Friesian bulls made $200 - $250; medium Friesian bulls made $80 - $160, top W/F bulls made $200 - $250; medium W/F bulls made $120 - $180; top Angus bulls made $180 - $205; medium Angus bulls made $100 - $140, top w/f heifers made $170 - $205 mediums made $80 - $140, and Angus heifers made $160 - $190.
