At the yards: Calf prices steady

Levin Stock Report

It was finally good to see some sunshine for the Levin Stock Sale.

Calves were steady with bigger Friesian bulls fetching $155-$170 and medium sized calves $$70-$120.

WH bulls $150-$250 with the WH heifers making $100-$170. Sim cross heifers $170-$245, Devon cross bull $150, big bull $145.

There was also a small yarding of sheep with prime ewes $101, prime lambs $120-$122 and a tidy pen of store lambs making $84.

Also one pen of three Murray Grey yearling heifers at $885.

Rongotea Stock Report

This week's sale saw a good yarding of autumn Friesian weaner bulls which sold on a very strong market.

The market for bigger cattle firmed, as did calf prices after last week's dip.

Two-year-old white face heifers 398kg-407kg made up to $1140 ($2.80-$2.94).

Two-year-old white face steers 414kg-430kg made up to $1290 ($3.00-$3.21) and beef steers 388 kg made $1100 ($2.84).

Yearling Friesian steers 235kg made $490 ($2.09) and beef steers 225kg made $640 ($2.84).

Yearling Friesian bulls 190kg-300kg made up to $760 ($2.53-$2.95), white face bulls 237kg-385kg made up to $1050 ($2.51-$2.99) and Jersey bulls 168kg made $505 ($3.00).

Yearling white face heifers 210kg-340kg made up to $760 ($2.24-$3.26), beef heifers 295kg made $630 ($2.14) and cross breed heifers 248kg made $560 ($2.26).

Autumn Friesian weaner bulls 117kg-138kg made up to $690 ($4.62-$5.37), white face bulls 112kg-121kg made up to $645 ($5.32-$5.37) and Angus cross heifers 120kg made $650 (5.42).

In milk Jersey cows made $560-$650 and in calf Friesian heifers made $810.
Weaner pigs made $55-$75.

Ewes with lambs at foot made $81 all counted, Both RWR ewes and dry ewes made $80.
Mixed sex lambs made $90-$125 and pet lambs made $10-$12.

Big Friesian bull calves made $150-$180 and smaller calves made $60-$130. Big white face bull calves made $180-$235 and smaller calves made $80-$160. Charolais cross bull calves made $380. Big white face heifer calves made $150-$205 and smaller calves made $100-$140. Charolais cross heifer calves made $290 and Angus cross heifer calves made $220.

Dannevirke Calf Sale

Big Friesian bull calves made $180-$222 and smaller calves made $80-$130.

White face bull calves made $120-$280, Angus cross bull calves made $220 and Speckled Park bull calves made $300.
