AgriKids NZ competitors Emma McCallum, Sam Robson, and Renae Lindsay, of Lochiel School, in the costumes they will wear for the opening ceremony of the AgriKids competition in Invercargill tomorrow.

The trio, under the team name Gangster Goats, will compete in agricultural-based tasks against teams from around New Zealand.

It is an offshoot of the FMG Young Farmer Contest, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in Invercargill this week. A sell-out crowd of more than 1000 will attend the grand final quiz and awards night in Invercargill on Saturday.

The contest begins tomorrow with a technical day for the seven grand finalists, including Otago-Southland's Logan Wallace, at the Southern Institute of Technology.

An opening ceremony featuring a tug-o-war will be held at Queens Park that afternoon, followed by a sell-out 50th anniversary dinner at ILT Stadium Southland.

Donovan Park is the venue for the practical day on Friday, while the awards night on Saturday will be held at the stadium.

Grand finals for the TeenAg and AgriKidsNZ competitions will run alongside the contest.
