There are many awards ceremonies happening for the dairy sector and Fonterra is strongly represented.
Fonterra Regional Head for Canterbury, Charles Fergusson caught up with The Country Early Edition's Rowena Duncum for a chat about this exciting time for the co-op.
Fergusson says Fonterra won big at the recent icecream awards and can confirm that New Zealand's favourite flavour is the ever-popular Tip Top Boysenberry Ripple which has won for the fourth year in a row.
The dairy co-op was also well represented at the recent Māori Awards, (including the Ahuwhenua Trophy) in Christchurch, with Rotorua's Onuku Trust taking out the top award and Harepaora Ngaheu winning the Young Māori Farmer title.
Although the awards nights are about those participating, Fergusson says Fonterra also benefits from celebrating its farmers.
"The idea behind these awards is to celebrate success and to try and collectively raise the bar. Our farmers want to do more in terms of environment, animal health and high quality milk and these awards are a way of celebrating that and highlighting what can be done out there."
