Last week a public meeting held in Ashburton got a bit heated when farmers questioned Labour's spokesman for water David Parker over his party's proposed water tax.

Labour's Primary Industry Spokesman Damien O'Connor spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay today to defend Mr Parker's comments.

O'Connor says farmers were trying to push Parker for more information when Labour has clearly stated it will discuss the details of the policy with concerned parties after the election.
