DairyNZ can't make it rain but it can offer farmers good advice when it comes to managing drought conditions says Dr Tim Mackle.

DairyNZ's chief executive told The Country's Jamie Mackay that many farmers around New Zealand are affected by "extreme dry".

"I guess the most important message we want to get out is there is support for farmers," said Mackle who encouraged those in need of advice to check out DairyNZ's website.

Meanwhile, the Mycoplasma bovis levy consultation process has now closed with a lot of "robust discussions," at DairyNZ meetings said Mackle.

"Farmers were very keen to see real scrutiny about how the money is spent to be effective in eradicating M. bovis, [and] there was a lot of concern expressed about the response to date as well."

Although a lot of progress has been made in the fight against M. bovis, Mackle acknowledges, "we're not out of the woods yet".
