Dogs will soon have to be restrained when travelling on the back of utes on public roads.

The Country's Jamie Mackay caught up with rugby-dynasty patriarch and dairy farmer Kevin "Smiley" Barrett to get his thoughts on the new rule.

Barrett confirms he lost one of his best dogs because he didn't tether it, but that was during rugby training, so Mackay asks Norwood's chief executive Tim Myers what he thinks.

Turns out Myers is a townie who reckons the best farm dog he's ever seen was ... a Corgi.

Possibly best to stick to dairy farming, rugby and tractor chat with these two.
