Fonterra has launched a new product called BioKodeLab, which aims to support mental clarity, stress response and immune health - as well as filter blue light.

The co-op's decades of experience in infant nutrition for developing brains had given it an excellent platform to develop this new supplement range to support the brain performance of adults, Carl MacInnes, Director Sales & Marketing Disruption at Fonterra said.

"We're using some incredible dairy ingredients, as well as the best of the plant world," he told The Country Sport Breakfast's, Brian Kelly.

Cognitive competition was the new frontier, and BioKodeLab helped the brain to cope with the effects of the modern world, MacInnes said.

"Our brain is our most important asset in this fast 21st-century lifestyle."

The products contain key ingredients that support the building blocks of the brain, including phosphatidylserine, lutein, zeaxanthin and probiotics.

The effects of blue light on cognitive function was an important issue, MacInnes said.

"These devices that we're using every day - our screens, our phones and so forth - they're delivering significant amounts of blue light to us."

Excessive exposure to blue light disrupts sleep cycles, causing sore eyes, affecting mood and escalating cognitive degradation.

To combat this, the BioKodeLab range contains three ingredients, which Fonterra trademarked earlier this year - Pro-Sight, ThinkSharp and StresLes.

Pro-Sight, an antioxidant ingredient bundle that supports eye health and visual performance, is vital for protection against blue light.

With Pro-Sight, Fonterra relied on the natural world, harnessing flower power to protect the brain from blue and UV light, MacInnes said.

"We've taken the very best of plants - two ingredients - lutein and zeaxanthin, they're from marigolds."

Pro-Sight also contains Vitamin A and riboflavin, which are important for maintaining healthy vision.

It was vital that all of the products across the BioKodeLab range contained this blue light filter, MacInnes said.

"There are some really major problems if you don't filter this blue light, it can impact sleep, impact mood and impact cognitive performance.

"So we think it's really, really important that everyone takes a product like this every day in this new world of ours."
