No more Queensland fruit flies have been found overnight, six days after a single fly was found in Northland.
While no further evidence of the potentially devastating bug has been spotted, a restriction zone of 1.5km around the site would stay in place, the Ministry for Primary Industries said.
Staffexamined traps and fruit collected from areas close to where one male Queensland fruit fly was discovered on April 1, but no signs of other flies were detected, MPI said today.
A number of flies which were taken to MPI staff by members of the public, concerned they had found more of the Australian pests, were examined and found not to be Queensland fruit flies.
Around 60 MPI staff were out in the field today while the investigation into whether there were further fruit flies continued.
Measures to prevent the spread of the fly are still in force, including a restriction on the movement of fruit and vegetables out of the exclusion zone.
Gardens and rubbish bins will be inspected for any signs of the fruit flies, and nearly 300 traps have been put in place.
It is the second Queensland fruit fly found in the area this year, after a fly was discovered in January.
