A big block of dairy land owned by Solid Energy is being put up for sale in Eastern Southland, PGG Wrightson Real Estate said.

The block of 2000ha is one of the largest recent offerings of New Zealand dairy land, the rural specialist said.

The land comprises nine farms, ranging in size from 399ha to 33ha, all within a 5km radius between Mataura and Gore.

PGG Wrightson Real Estate general manager Peter Newbold said the properties were likely to be well received.

"In the past few months demand for dairy land has exceeded supply," he said in a statement. "Investors are motivated to take advantage of the international market for milk powder, which is driving up the forecast dairy payout.
