Found: one remote control helicopter, in slightly damaged condition.
The final piece in the puzzle of the "crashed" helicopter was solved on Saturday morning, when a member of the public handed the toy helicopter in to police.
Emergency services were on high alert on Friday night after a Gonville resident
reported seeing a helicopter hurtling to the ground.
The breaking news flashed across television screens that there had been a helicopter crash in Wanganui.
Police, fire, ambulance, coastguard were all put on alert, and air traffic controllers began checking the whereabouts of aircraft.
The crashed helicopter turned out to be a $160 Super Dolphin radio controlled helicopter belonging to another Gonville resident, Andre Teal.
Wanganui police reported a Tawa St resident had brought the toy helicopter in to them on Saturday morning.
A police spokesperson said the helicopter had landed on the woman's roof. The lights were broken and the tail was "wobbly", but the chopper was in one piece.
"I'm no expert in these things, but I think it will be fixable," the spokesperson said.
Mr Teal declined to comment.
