The traffic lights at the Fenton St and Amohau St intersection are finally back in action.
They started working again before 1pm yesterday after a power cut in the CBD about 4.15pm on Monday fried one of the control components for the signals. A replacement unit had to be sourced from Auckland, which is what caused the delay.
Traffic cones were put in place shaped as a temporary roundabout to help motorists while the lights were out.
Rotorua District Council infrastructure services manager Nico Claasen said they were happy with how motorists behaved during the outage.
"We appreciate people being cautious," he said.
Mr Claasen said a lot of people sought alternative routes which alleviated the build-up.
During outages he said "the same road rules would apply" when it came to cyclists and pedestrians. While there would be no green signal for pedestrians or a cycle bay, he said most people would just try to avoid it.
