The Waikato Rover Scout Crew is a social and community-minded group of people who provide community service, learn new skills and enjoy social events.

Although the club, which caters for people aged between 18 and 26, isn't Rotorua-based, there are Rotorua members and its members often visit the city for social and community activities.

Rotorua woman and Waikato Rover Scout Crew member Julie Voss said the crew, based in Hamilton, was the closest Scouting New Zealand group for Rotorua residents.

Others were based in Palmerston North and Auckland. However, the group makes regular visits to Rotorua to pick up rubbish and clean up areas of the city while also enjoying the city on a social level.

The group recently went for a walk around Tikitapu and did a rubbish pick-up, collecting 11 bags of rubbish from around the walking track.

The Waikato Rover Scout Crew is part of Scouting New Zealand and a branch of its youth section.

Rotorua residents were able to join and attend group meetings, which were held twice a month, Ms Voss said.

She added there were at least two Rotorua members but if more wanted to join, a carpooling system could be set up.

Ms Voss said the Waikato Rover Scout Crew took part in community events, had fun, provided community service and carried out self-development and did activities such as camping.

She said they were about "just getting together and doing good for the community".
