A 12-year-old boy, a student of Taradale Intermediate, was the victim of a fatal road accident in the Napier suburb this morning.
Principal Dennis Coxon said the boy was "new to the school and was fitting in well, making new friends and had just had a great time at camp. It's
just so sad."
Napier police and serious crash investigators were in attendance at the crash site on Guppy Road following the accident, believed to be between a van and a bicycle which occurred just after 8am.
While the fatality has been confirmed, no other details were available. Road closures were in place on Guppy Road between Osier Road and Elbourne Street, with traffic being diverted. The area has a 50km/h speed limit. The accident happened on the corner of Moeller Street outside Reignier School.
