The first day of the new year in Rotorua could be full of sunshine but celebrations tomorrow night could get rained on.
According to the MetService website, Rotorua is due for cloud and showers for the next few days.
However, the clouds and rain are forecast to be gone by Saturday -
with Rotorua expected to see a sunny New Year's Day with temperatures reaching 23C.
Rotorua weatherman Brian Holden said the weekend weather was looking to be fine.
But he said rain was predicted tomorrow night for New Year's Eve.
Despite the predictions of rain, Rotorua is expected to reach a high of 25C tomorrow.
Rotorua's annual free New Year's Eve concert, Rock the Lake, will be going ahead rain or shine.
Concert organiser Monty Morrison said the show would go on despite poor weather predictions.
"We are planning for the worst but hoping for the best," he said.
"We can't stop it from raining. The best we can do is advise people to be prepared. Dress to the conditions."
Other spots in the region have similar weather predictions for tomorrow and New Year's Day.
