All Blacks star Richie McCaw may be suffering an injury, but he has been seen hanging out in Rotorua.

A member of the public contacted The Daily Post to let us know the All Black captain had visited Wild Rice Thai Cuisine on Eat Streat Thursday night. However, a spokesman from the restaurant didn't want to make a comment.

McCaw was dropped from last night's All Blacks team on Thursday due to a calf muscle strain. But one lucky local got to meet the All Blacks captain, getting his autograph and a picture.

Plumber and drainlayer Clayton Reily said he and his wife were at Wild Rice having dinner with his boss on Thursday night, not knowing he was in the presence of rugby royalty.

"I had my back to him so didn't see him at first."

Mr Reily said his boss alerted him to the fact McCaw was in the restaurant.

"I turned around and said 'yes, that's Richie'."

"There was only us, him and his girlfriend in the restaurant and I felt a bit stink going up to him and interrupting his dinner but he was really good about it."

Mr Reily said he was a huge All Black fan and was wearing his replica jersey on the night and grabbed an autograph for him and his daughter and a picture with the man himself.

"The staff had no idea who he was and his girlfriend was trying to play it down.

"He was really good to talk to and asked us a few questions about what games we were going to and that. We promised his girlfriend we would not tell anyone they were there, until they left."

Mr Reily said it was a real buzz to meet the All Blacks captain.

"We were all blown away, I felt like a little kid in a candy store," he said.
