It didn't take long for me to say "I love coming here". I giggled when asked to review the food at Turkuaz Cafe. I've been eating everything on their menu for a few years now. I had been to the gym, had had a quick shower and was in that frame of mind to have something fresh, tasty and soon-ish. You order at the counter and I opted for a small Chicken Iskender with an extra falafel and a glass of Crossroads Merlot (because this was for Savvy). Jason ordered the Chicken Iskender, fries and garlic bread because he had earned it he said.

The young woman on the counter was efficient and patient while we chose sauces, made up our minds and changed them. Food arrived on the table within five minutes.

The Iskender meal comes with a range of salads, chicken and your choice of sauces. The tabbouleh is fresh with that lovely nutty texture and full of flavour. The dish is served with fresh tomato, cucumber salad, fresh crunchy lettuce, red cabbage, slices of pita bread, hummus dip and the kebab chicken topped with chosen sauces. It was presented perfectly for the style of food which I ate most of with my fingers.

Turkuaz Cafe was busy that night; Two large groups dinning in the corner, quite a few couples and, as we left, there was a line developing at the counter. One of my girlfriends was there with her daughter who had just been to her sport. Her comment to me was perfect: "Our family eat here every week, normally on a Friday night. It's affordable for a whole family, fast and good". I thought that sums up why my family are also eating at Turkauz Cafe once a fortnight too. Every time I dine there I see friends and business colleges enjoying the food and vibrant atmosphere.

If you haven't been to Turkuaz Cafe yet you are in for a visual feast. The lavish Turkish cushions covered in wonderful fabrics are comfortable and a bit of fun for the kids. Bright lamp shades and decorations that transport you to experience people with an eye for colour, spirited style and a passion for fresh food!

Turkuaz Cafe, Rathbone Street, is a family-run business and our family has watched their families grow, have babies and develop a successful business in Whangarei. You're missing out if you haven't been in for a while.

We paid $53 which is perfect for what we ate with a glass of good red wine. I remember growing up in the 70s and Friday nights were fish'n chip nights. This is so much better for my family than that!
