TWO teenagers appeared in the Gisborne Youth Court yesterday charged in relation to the alleged robbery of the Five Star Food Market in Wainui Road on Sunday.

Police say two youths, aged 17, entered the shop at around 6.45pm on Sunday night and allegedly threatened shop staff with a hammer.

“One staff member in the shop was injured in the incident,” a police spokesman said. “He did not require hospital treatment.”

The intruders made off with a quantity of tobacco products.

They were arrested later that night at locations in Kaiti and were remanded in custody at their initial court appearance.
