Concept drawings for the new Greerton Library building were presented at Tauranga's City Council's Community Development Committee meeting.

The new building will connect with the Village Green hosting large windows to allow natural light into the building and bring clear views from the outside in.

Tauranga City Council has approved $3.4 million in its Annual Plan 2014/15 to fund the new 900m2 building - double the size of the existing library.

However, Council has also applied for funding from the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board to extend the original 900m2 plan by an extra 150m2.

Local company Marra Construction Limited were awarded the contract in February to design and build the new library.

The concepts are currently being worked on by Council and Marra Construction to finalise the design.

Construction begins in June or July and is expected to be completed by March 2016.
