The Whanganui District Health Board has reviewed the care given to baby Jack Jellyman whose health problems were highlighted in last Saturday's Chronicle.
Wanganui Hospital's head of paediatrics David Montgomery has confirmed that the diagnosis of common childhood illnesses made by senior medical staff who treated him in Whanganui Accident and Medical Centre (WAM) and Wanganui Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) was correct and appropriate.
Jack's mother Charlotte Jellyman had said it took seven visits to WAM and ED before a correct diagnosis was made, she felt she hadn't been listened to and it wasn't until she was given an appointment with a paediatrician late last week that she was told what was wrong.
Dr Montgomery said Jack did receive the correct care on each visit. And this week he met Miss Jellyman to clarify Jack's test results and to confirm he was recovering.
Dr Montgomery said childhood illnesses were always distressing and "little Jack has had his fair share since his birth four months ago".
