Changing up a gear in your thinking, making new decisions about an old way of thinking has led two Whanganui women to run a six week course inviting people to link into higher thinking levels.
Olive Redfern and Carla Langmead, both involved in mental health, say the idea for the course
came from discussions about learning that the hard-wired aspect of our brains with our DNA locks us into who we are forever.
"Not true, it's a myth," they both say.
Olive said you can absolutely make new decisions about aspects of your thinking.
"Your thinking patterns are not locked in for life. You can change long time and ingrained thought patterns."
The two women are both skilled practitioners and say their facilitated course with classes running weekly for six weeks starting on October 12 will help convince people about sustainable thought pattern changes.
"It is about being totally in control and moving to a higher level of thinking ... and it works," said Carla.
Most people are locked into believing their brain patterns have have been pre-determined and what they are now is where they will be forever, Olive said.
"It's a myth. It's neuroplasticity which is about sustainable and control of your thinking."
Also known as brain plasticity, neuroplasticity is an umbrella term that describes the brain throughout an individual's life course. The term neuroplasticity gained prominence in the late 20th century, when new research showed many aspects of the brain remain changeable (or "plastic") even into adulthood.
Now Neuro-Semantics has become a model of how we create and embody meaning.
It is is a more scientific term for mind-body, said Carla.
The women say that as a health field, Neuro-Semantics utilises the way of understanding our unique kind of consciousness.
This is not to be confused with the hundreds of self-help books, thinking positive thoughts and believing and saying a simple mantra could help rid you of an illness for example, said Olive.
"These self affirmations are just shallow."
However, blinking into your higher thinking to create new thinking will have a profound effect on your life, said Carla.
"It's about personal attitude issues," she said.
These include your personal attitude to regular exercise, weight loss, a feeling you're wasting your life. "It's about everything and anything."
Carla said challenging yourself, making changes in your thinking, changing old habits will ultimately completely alter your life.
"It is very powerful. When you realise how to avoid making negative decisions that you have been doing all your life you will be amazed at the transformation. But it takes hard work."
Carla and Olive will facilitate the six weekly classes which will be held every Wednesday at 7pm to 8.30pm at the Josephite Retreat Centre.
Both women are convinced their lifestyle changing course has the power to redirect lives.
"It's all about your believing you can access your higher thinking," they said.
