A uniquely Kiwi activity programme is running to help fill the last days of the school holidays - with plenty of fun-filled activities on offer.
The programme, at Te Puia New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, lets visitors take part in traditional Maori games, such as poi, ti rakau
(Maori stick games) and Maori stilt-walking, as well as have their faces painted (kirituhi) in traditional designs.
The activities are being led by Te Rina West, the latest of many generations of West family members to guide in Te Whakarewarewa Valley. Te Rina is also the face of the Famously Rotorua campaign.
Te Puia sales and marketing manager Kiri Atkinson-Crean said the activities were a fun, interactive way for children to learn about Maori culture.
"The activities are a unique and very Kiwi way for our tamariki to learn about Maori culture and traditions, as well as keeping them occupied and interested over the last weeks of the summer holiday period.
