The new year is almost upon us and the Rotorua GLO Festival will be seeing it in with style, laughter and dancing.

The three-day festival has a range of activities and events to celebrate the end of 2014, and the beginning of the new year.

The festival commenced last night with The Hits Flicks at the lakefront.

Destination Rotorua events manager Martin Croft previously told the Rotorua Daily Post he was expecting tens of thousands of visitors from across the Bay of Plenty and beyond to arrive in town for the family-friendly festivities.

Tonight, Rotorua residents will be able to celebrate New Year's Eve in style with the popular Party in the Park, including fireworks at 9.15pm and again at midnight.

The First Big Brunch will end the festivities on New Year's Day. Festival goers can start the new year in relaxed fashion, listening to music, enjoying great food and have a chance to win prizes.

Amusement park rides will also be operating throughout the festival near the lakefront's main stage.

MetService forecasts rain developing tonight with a low of 15C, but showers are predicted to clear tomorrow with long fine spells and a high of 24C.
