Five is a favourite number for Rotorua men Steve Fraser and Trevor Newbrook and it's not hard to see why.
The pair were both born on 5/5/1955 and yesterday they celebrated their 55th birthday.
However, the men who are friends haven't had that much luck with the number.
"I always bet on the fifth horse in the fifth race but the blimmin thing always comes fifth," Mr Fraser said.
But Mr Fraser has won a few raffles by choosing a number which has five in it.
Five is also a popular number in family life for Mr Fraser. He and wife Wendy were married in 1975 and have just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Their oldest son Stacey was born in 1975 and five of the couple's grandchildren have birthdays in the same week.
It was partly due to their unusual birth date that Mr Fraser, who owns Motorsports Limited, met Mr Newbrook. Mr Newbrook's brother Craig owned a car sales yard next door to Mr Fraser and they got chatting one day about special dates when it was revealed that Mr Fraser and Mr Newbrook shared the same birth date.
Mr Newbrook said the number five was his favourite number but it had not brought him any luck. When he told people when he was born many thought he was kidding.
Meanwhile, Mr Fraser celebrated his 55th birthday yesterday with a round of golf and was hoping to do well at the fifth hole which had been his bogey hole.
Mr Newbrook celebrated the day with a family dinner.
