Rotorua's social scene is set to become more dynamic with the launching of Singles Adventure Mates.

Juliet Boone felt there was a lack of a scene for people who were not coupled up and is looking to rectify it.

"There seems to be a lot of people around my age who are single. I always hear them commenting that they don't know how to meet people and it's hard to meet people, so this is a way of connecting them all together without going through a dating site.

"It might be that they go and see a band or have dinner. It's based around getting people together in groups to do things. The idea is if you are friends, it makes it a less stressful situation."

Ms Boone said the site would be primarily for people in the 35-year age bracket to come together without any pressure.

"It is about connecting people, rather than setting them up." Ms Boone has big plans for the site. "It kind of evolves as to who's going to use it. It could be ongoing, I have done lots of events before, so I have lots of ideas, if I get people interested.

"I am thinking a masquerade ball or a ski holiday, it could end up being quite big events.

"I want it to move beyond just Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty."

Single Adventure Mates is having its first gathering in Rotorua on February 4, 7-9pm at Abracadabra Cafe. Entry is $15 and includes a drink and nibbles.
