There are three ways to donate to the Rotorua Daily Post's annual Christmas appeal this year.
The appeal was formally launched on Saturday and this year proceeds will again go to the Salvation Army Rotorua Foodbank.
The community is being asked to contribute non-perishable food to the cause to help keep the foodbank stocked all year around. Monetary donations are also accepted.
Salvation Army corps officer Kylie Overbye said Christmas was a time to celebrate hope.
"Everything we do as The Salvation Army is working to give people hope, hope of a way out of the situation they're in and to build a better life long-term.
"We're humbled every year that we live in such a generous community. Rotorua people give so much, especially through this appeal to help us give people hope, both at Christmas and to keep doing that throughout the year."
Overbye said the generosity shown during the appeal meant the foodbank could keep the shelves stocked and ensure people didn't go hungry.
"It also frees up funds to go into the other work we do which is focused on helping people address the reasons they need our help and building them up, giving them the hope of a life where they won't need our help and where they can give back to others."
From now until December 22, the Rotorua Daily Post, in conjunction with the Rotorua Weekender and The Hits Rotorua 97.5FM, is seeking non-perishable food donations to help the foodbank continue its good work throughout the Christmas period and into 2019.
After its success last year, there will again be a Fill The Bus day on December 5.
The food donated through the appeal goes towards creating Christmas hampers for those in need. Any money donated is used to buy more food.
