A motorcycle adorned with a valuable painting is among the custom-decorated Rotorua bikes competing as American Choppers in New Plymouth this weekend.
Warren Harvey and business partner Peter Benson, of Rotorua's SS Customs, are entering two customised Harley Davidsons in the American Chopper category at the National Motorcycle Expo.
Mr Harvey is an airbrush artist and custom painter and decorated both bikes. It took 240 hours to airbrush one, which has an almost exact replica of Edvard Munch's famous painting The Scream.
He finished the other bike in the last two weeks with a flame design.
Mr Harvey is a judge at the expo and will demonstrate airbrushing.
"It should be fun. It's not just for bikers, it's a family event," said Mr Harvey, who is taking his daughter and granddaughter.
He understood about 50 Rotorua people were going, but was not sure how many were entering the competition.
About 110 motorcycles were expected.
