The Waipukurau Fire Brigade had an unusual call-out yesterday to help a horse that had become stuck on a fence.
Deputy fire officer Owen Spotswood said the 6-month-old horse tried to jump the fence from its stable, but only made it halfway towards its bid for freedom.
"Its front legs were on one side of the fence and the back legs were on the other. A vet was called to give it a tranquiliser and we just picked up his hind legs and lifted him off," he said.
Mr Spotswood estimated the horse weighed more than 100kg and required four officers to assist with the lifting.
