An NRL rugby league match between Melbourne Storm and St George Illwarra will be played on July 25 at McLean Park in Napier.
Details were announced in a media release today from the Napier City Council which has been negotiating with "home" club the Storm and the NRL for more than six months.
Storm CEO Mark Evans said: "I'd like to thank Napier City Council for providing Storm with the opportunity to bring an NRL game to their city.
Tickets for Storm club members go on sale tomorrow (Friday), while sales to the public open on Monday, through Ticketek.
"We're thrilled to be hosting this game at our iconic McLean Park ground," said Napier Mayor Bill Dalton. "We'll be pulling out all stops to make sure fans of both teams have an excellent time in Hawke's Bay - whether it's enjoying our internationally acclaimed Art Deco heritage or the numerous vineyards in our midst, there will be something for everyone to enjoy."
Napier City Council Chief Executive Wayne Jack said securing the NRL game was another coup for events in the city.
"We are committed to bringing events to Napier and Hawke's Bay. We see real value in them and the flow-on effect is very positive."
Kiwis player and former Hastings Boys' High pupil Tohu Harris plays for the Storm while Kiwis star Benji Marshall plays for St George.
