Hawke's Bay's St John Ambulance service will be taking on a new addition to its ranks in about a month - thanks to the generosity of the Hastings Host Lions Club and BNZ Taradale.
At a function in Hastings on Queen's Birthday Monday, club president Phil Allport handed over a cheque for $10,000 to St John Ambulance operations manager Stephen Smith. The money will be used to fund a much-needed addition to the St John team - an electronic training mannequin.
Mr Allport said the club ran two or three community fundraising campaigns a year, and had asked the service if there was any one thing in particular they needed. The service pointed to the electronic mannequin set-up which was vital in training personnel in a range of medical programmes. At present staff had to be sent to Auckland to train.
In February the Hastings Host Lions contributed $35,000 to the scouting organisation's Weka Point redevelopment.
