An earthquake centred near Hastings woke some Bay residents at 6.23 this morning.
Geonet said the "weak quake" was a 3.3 magnitude and was based 10km south east of Hastings.
A local Napier resident said he was woken by the "single jolt".
It was of a depth of 49km.
At this stage there were no reports of damage.
