Six-a-side to start hockey season at Harry Barker Reserve

THE hockey season starts on the LJ Hooker turf at Harry Barker Reserve tomorrow afternoon, with five men’s and five women’s teams ready to go.

The first games start at midday.

“We will have matches going on the turf all afternoon,” association administrator Mai Gooch said.

“Games will be six-a-side on half the pitch, with two games going at any one time, the men on one field and the women on the other.”

The five men’s will be YMP (two), Lytton Old Boys, Boys’ High and THC.

The women’s teams are YMP, Paikea, GMC (two) and Te Aowera.

“The tournament is about getting back into hockey and having a bit of fun,” Gooch said.

“There’s a dress-up component, and it’s up to the teams whether they do that.”

The final games start at 5pm.
