The White Island quake was magnitude 2.7. Photo / File

A light earthquake has been recorded near White Island this morning.

The magnitude 2.7 quake was within 5km of White Island at 7.30am and was 5km deep.

It followed a 3.5 quake 15km northwest of Whakatane last night. It was 10km deep and happened at 8.46pm. It was recorded as "felt" by 483 people.
