Construction of the $25 million Gate Pa shopping centre is steaming ahead with almost 80 per cent of the complex already leased.
Peter Williams, owner of Tauranga-based Boffo Property Ltd and project development manager, said he was "absolutely delighted" with progress so far and expects to be able to reveal a list of up to 20 tenants by mid to late January.
"We are now very confident that we will achieve full occupancy by the time the shopping centre opens to the public in April," he said.
When complete the new convenience shopping centre - being built on land owned by Tauranga's Dean Waddell - will boast up to 22 stores including a BP petrol station, two international fast-food chains that are yet to be seen in Tauranga and a New World supermarket headed by former All Black Robin Brooke and his wife.
The supermarket will be the anchor tennant and the 3200sq m store will employ between 150 and 200 people when in full operation. It will be the second Tauranga New World - the other in Brookfield is run by Mr Waddell.
Shops between 22nd Ave and Mitre 10 Mega have been demolished to make way for the development.
The first stores would be open in April and the rest would be ready in time for the official opening in June.
