Papamoa has a new cenotaph to commemorate six local men who died in war.

The memorial, which has been erected at the Stella Place car park overlooking the sea, was unveiled at a special ceremony this afternoon.

The $18,000 project was funded entirely through donations and the Mount Maunganui RSA will take ownership and responsibility for its ongoing maintenance.
