Police have named the truck driver who died in a three-vehicle crash near Levin last night.
He was Grant Andrew Jackson, 56, of Shannon.
The crash, involving two trucks and another vehicle, occurred on State Highway 57 near the township of Shannon about 4.45pm.
Emergency services attended the scene and all six people involved in the crash were taken to hospital.
Mr Jackson was driving one of the trucks and died shortly after the crash.
The other five injured people - including one in a critical condition - are still in Palmerston North Hospital.
Detective Sergeant Peter Vine said the crash investigation was ongoing.
"Over the coming days we will speak with the crash victims and I want to sincerely thank everyone who came to their assistance at the scene," Mr Vine said.
A scene examination and vehicle recovery operation was being conducted, closing State Highway 57 between Tavistock Rd and Shannon until 3pm today.
Diversions are in place around the scene and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.
The woman was shaken by the incident.
