THE WET weather has returned, and with it a series of motoring accidents on local streets.
Emergency services were kept busy yesterday with minor accidents mounting up.
At about 2.40pm, two cars carrying single occupants collided on the corner of St Hill St and Guyton St.
One of the vehicles
rolled on to its side, and passers-by helped the driver out of the car.
Police, fire and ambulance personnel were called to the intersection, but neither driver was seriously injured.
Witnesses at the scene said the accident occurred after one car failed to give way while turning.
Constable David Shield said the cause of the accident was still being investigated.
Earlier, a ute rolled down a bank on Virginia Rd just before 2pm.
The fire service attended the scene, and assisted the woman from her vehicle.
She was not seriously injured.
Emergency services were also called to an accident just north of Taihape, where a ute was involved in a single car incident.
The occupant was uninjured.
Acting Sergeant Stu Duncan, of Wanganui police, said drivers had to be aware of the road conditions when they get behind the wheel.
"Vehicle collisions are caused by people's driving behaviour," he said. "People just have to drive to the conditions and they still have to observe all the road rules. Police are always kept busy by people not complying with the rules."
He said wet weather made driving more difficult, and drivers should always consider the weather when they were in their cars.
"Always drive to the conditions, no matter what."
