Investigation continues
The investigation into a Whanganui stud farm is ongoing, the SPCA says.
The animal protection group is unable to comment further on the investigation, which began last year, but said this week that it was ongoing and that such investigations "can be very time consuming".
In February Regal Fern Lodge said it was working with the SPCA to monitor horses at its Kaitoke property and that about six mares that were taken into care in last year by mutual agreement were returned in February.
Paying the price
Matthew Clayton Duxfield, 26, who had a previously clean criminal record, was ordered to pay $115.80 in reparation by Judge Philip Crayton in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
"Mr Duxfield, you pleaded guilty to five offences involving your opportunistic finding and attempted use and use of a [bank] card," Judge Crayton said. "You tried to use it on four occasions, two of them successful, and that is why you'll pay reparation."
