Investigation continues
The investigation into a Whanganui stud farm is ongoing, the SPCA says.

The animal protection group is unable to comment further on the investigation, which began last year, but said this week that it was ongoing and that such investigations "can be very time consuming".

In February Regal Fern Lodge said it was working with the SPCA to monitor horses at its Kaitoke property and that about six mares that were taken into care in last year by mutual agreement were returned in February.

Paying the price
Matthew Clayton Duxfield, 26, who had a previously clean criminal record, was ordered to pay $115.80 in reparation by Judge Philip Crayton in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.

"Mr Duxfield, you pleaded guilty to five offences involving your opportunistic finding and attempted use and use of a [bank] card," Judge Crayton said. "You tried to use it on four occasions, two of them successful, and that is why you'll pay reparation."

Rubbish issues
Whether or not to provide a kerbside rubbish and or a recycling service will be debated at the Rangitikei District Council today.

As part of the council's Long Term Plan, councillors will vote either to have the service for certain communities or not to provide the service at all.

A third option will be to save the cost of the service now to do further consultation with the community to better understand what the demand is.

Response from nurses
Nurses are expected to respond today to an offer of a pay increase.

District health boards offered a 9 per cent pay rise by August next year with the threat of nurses striking in July looming. The nurses are expected to then vote on the offer next week.

Dog attack charges
Lorraine Camp appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday charged with owning a dog that attacked another dog. Camp pleaded not guilty and will reappear in the district court on June 28 for a hearing.
