Friday, Jan 28: US musician and songwriter Ruth Wyand will perform at The Belgian Bar in Arawa St. Her lyrics draws heavily on American roots music as her performances demonstrate her strengths as a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist. Saturday, Jan 29: The Taupo Flying Proms. An amazing family event featuring spectacular aircraft including the famous Red Checkers choreographed to the 50-piece Aotea Youth Symphony. Wine, food and market stalls, special interest displays, dedicated children's activities and excellent live entertainment. The evening concludes with a fantastic fireworks display and a finale with all performers taking to the stage. From 3pm-9.30pm at Centennial Park in Taupo. Saturday, Jan 29: The Rotorua North Rotary Club Charity Flea Market. Open every Saturday next to the playground in Kuirau Park from 7am-1.30pm. A huge range of produce, food, goods and entertainment.
Saturday, Jan 29: Opera in the Pa featuring tenor Benjamin Makisi, lyric soprano Aivale Cole and Rotorua soprano Timua Brennan and others at Te Puia Maori Arts and Crafts Institute Whakarewarewa. Gates open at 6.30pm. Tickets cost $20 from Ticketmaster.
Saturday, Jan 29 _ Sunday, Jan 30: The 102nd Annual Rotorua A & P Show is a great family fun day out at Riverdale Park, Western Rd in Ngongotaha. Featuring equestrian, cattle, alpaca, miniature horse, donkey and mule, harness horse and goat competitions. Great entertainment for all the family _ monster truck, lawnmower racing, police dog display, King and Queen of the Mountain Race plus lots of food and trade Sites. From 8.30am-5pm each day. Saturday, Jan 29 _ Sunday, Jan 30: The 2011 Eves Realty Blue Lake Multisport Festival will be the event's 25th anniversary. There is an event for everyone with a 2km or 750m open water swim, an Aquathon, a sprint triathlon and a 5.5km fun run. Organised by the Rotorua Association of Triathletes, the event will be from 8.30am-12pm at Tikitapu (Blue Lake). Costs between $15 _ $50. For more information go to www.rats.org.nz.
