Wesley's turning 12 on 12-12-12

Good things come in twelves for Wesley Turner, the Rotorua boy who turned 12 today - December 12, 2012.

He was to celebrate his birthday with a cake at school, to be cut at 12.12pm.

Today is the last day this century to have a repetitive date pattern of this kind, 12-12-12.

Wesley said today would be "just a normal birthday".

"It's just going to be a normal birthday, but it's one you can celebrate more than the others. When you think about it, it's the last birthday like that for another 100 years - how did I get a birthday like that?"

Although it was a special day for Wesley, he said he would still be going to school as he had already had his birthday party on Saturday.

"I'm still going to go to school, I'm not going to wag but I will take a cake to school."

He said he hoped the weather would be fine as it had rained on all of his other birthdays.

Mum Breanna said Wesley had opted to have a big party for his 12th birthday rather than when he turned 16.

"I'm going to have to remind him about that when he turns 16. I'm going to take a cake into his school at lunch for his class and his teacher. Hopefully, we can cut it right on 12.12pm."

When Wesley was born, Breanna said she realised Wesley would have an easy-to-remember birthday, but it wasn't until this year that they picked up on the repetitive date.

"It wasn't until we got to this year that we thought, oh. When he was born, an elderly Maori lady told us he will be special and famous."

Repetitive dates were commonly used for celebrations in their family. Breanna said this would be the third year in a row there was a wedding on Wesley's birthday.
