"It's a fresh, new start for us, for the station and for listeners. I think everyone can expect to have a lot of laughs."
The main objective of the show was to "have a laugh" and include and entertain listeners, he said.
Mr Roberts' passion for radio stems back to when he went to high school in Rotorua, before he studied at the New Zealand Broadcasting School in Christchurch, he said.
"I just love how radio is such an immediate medium. You can break news and the music part of it is pretty cool too, at any moment you can share the biggest and best songs with listeners," he said.
"But the real perk of the job, is doing what I love."
Mr Roberts said that although his career had taken him away from Rotorua, the city was still a big part of who he was.
"I'm still a Rotorua boy at heart. It's part of me ... my family lives in Rotorua and I love coming home for Christmas."
