The latest film starring Rotorua's Temuera Morrison is set hit the big screens.
The feature film called Tracker stars Morrison, alongside English actor Ray Winstone. The film is set in 1903. Winstone plays an ex-Boer War guerrilla in New Zealand who is sent out to bring back a Maori (Morrison) accused ofkilling a British soldier. Gradually, they grow to know and respect one another.
The film was shot around Queenstown and the bush and beaches near Auckland.
In the movie, the pair are meant to be enemies: the hunter and the hunted. Their characters, a South African master tracker who had fought in the Boer War and a Maori man falsely accused of murder, come to know and like each other and realise they have a common enemy.
The film had been gestating since 2000, so when it finally came time to film, Morrison was relieved as his work prospects had dwindled.
The film is released nationwide from tomorrow and will screen at Reading Cinemas Rotorua at 1.30pm, 3.50pm and 8.30pm.
Cinema complex manager Adam Morrison is encouraging all Rotorua residents to check out the film and support Morrison.
He expects the film to be a popular one in the city, given Morrison lives here.
