Summer catch-up: Toy tester Samuel Collins

Rotorua schoolboy Samuel Collins, 7, won't be worrying about how to keep himself amused these summer holidays.

This year Samuel was chosen as one of four toy testers nationwide for The Warehouse.

Samuel is given $200 worth of toys every month to play with, assess and rate, giving feedback to The Warehouse's toy-buying team.

Samuel said he's had a lot of fun being a toy tester.

"It's pretty cool when you get a delivery every month full of new toys to play with. My mum only lets me open a couple of toys at a time so they last the whole month.

"At the moment I'm waiting to open the hovercraft toy that you control with your hand, I'm really excited to use it."

He said his favourite part of the job was seeing which new toys he got.

"A lot of the toys are things I may not have bought so it's cool I get to try them out for free."

Samuel said he still felt lucky to be one of The Warehouse toy testers.

"Some of the kids at school are jealous of me and my job because it's fun and they wish they could do it too.

"So far some of my favourite toys have been the Lego kits and the Micro Chargers track. We bought some extra cars so I could race my mum and brother."

Samuel's mother, Paulina Romero, said it had been a great year.

"It has been an amazing opportunity for Samuel and he has been so good sharing the toys with his little brother. It has been a fabulous year.

"The other day he came to me and said, 'Mum I don't know what you are going to get me for Christmas this year as I already have everything'."
