Six Reporoa students are bald after sacrificing their hair for charity.
Reporoa College Year 13 student Marieke Esendam was the first to get her hair shaved off on Friday as part of Shave for a Cure to raise money for the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation.
Marieke organised the day and encouraged others
to have their hair shaved too.
"I just thought it was a good idea.
"I just liked being a part of it."
She said a lot of people at the school had siblings or friends who had had leukaemia or a blood disease.
She wasn't nervous about losing her hair.
"I don't think I've had time to be nervous because I've been stressed out organising everything."
Marieke had a look of trepidation on her face as her hair was cut off, and then her head shaved.
A crowd of students gathered to watch, taking photos with their phones, and cheering on the "shavees".
One student provided music by playing guitar and singing, and a More FM DJ was there to commentate the event.
After her hair was gone, Marieke said she felt cold and ran her hand over her head.
"I thought 'wow, it's just not there'."
She was the only girl to have her hair shaved off and she received a lot of hugs and congratulations from people following the shave.
Marieke raised more than $1000 for the cause, and the 14 Reporoa College students involved in Shave for a Cure - including Marieke - raised a combined $4000.
There was also a bake sale, a raffle and a sausage sizzle to raise money for the cause.
Other students to have their hair shaved off were Year 13 students Sam McDell, Zarek Silberschmidt, Sam Richardson, Leighvern Chadwick and Liam Griffin.
A Reporoa teacher also had his legs shaved by students on the day.
Another group of students will have their hair shaved off next Friday .
Reporoa College principal Kris Bhatt said it was an exciting day.
"As a school we are proud to be part of Shave for a Cure."
He said he hoped the school would do it again next year.
