Snowfall has been reported at various locations in the Rotorua district, including Rainbow Mountain and Tumunui.
Readers have also reported snow at Rerewhakaaitu, Broadlands and Mt Ngongotaha.
MetService has a snow warning in place in the central and lower North Island.
The Napier-Taupo Highway (State Highway 5) is closed andsnow and ice cautions are in place on State Highway 1 between Oruanui and Wairakei and on the Desert Rd between Turangi and Waiouru.
Motorists are advised to take extra care and expect winter driving conditions.
