Rotorua's Clean Up Week a community effort

Clean Up Week starts today and Keep Rotorua Beautiful is encouraging locals to pick up litter in their area.

Every year, Keep New Zealand Beautiful provides the resources needed for community groups, individuals and businesses to get out into their communities and clean up rubbish.

You can set up your own clean-up event by inviting relatives, friends, schools, community groups and workplaces to join in, or you can join an organised event in your area.

Once you've registered, Keep New Zealand Beautiful will send you everything you need - recycling and rubbish bags, gloves, certificates for participants and an evaluation form.

The rubbish bags will be collected with normal rubbish collection for the next two weeks.

Locally, more than 2000 people have registered to host clean-ups.

Co-ordinator Christine Findon said it wasn't too late for people to register. "A few years ago we had 3500 people - we'd love to beat that record this year."

Mrs Findon and the Keep Rotorua Beautiful committee will be at Bunnings today for the official Clean Up Week launch, signing people up and giving out supplies.
